Who is Oakland?
Oakland is a welcoming church with a big heart. We focus on worship and discipleship, spreading the love of God far and wide. Our worship services provide a blend of traditional and contemporary music.
Our church stands upon the historic original stone building of the first Oakland church, with the basement serving as the Oakland school until 1915. We've made several additions and changes over the years, our most recent being a beautiful 250 seat sanctuary.
Our Pastor: Joseph Kim
Pastor Joe is from Seoul, South Korea. He came to the United States in 2001, finished Louisville Seminary in 2005, and was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 2010.
He has been in ministry for over 20 years. He served at Lewisport UMC and New Chapel UMC for 8 years before coming to Oakland in June 2021.
Pastor Joe was called into ministry when he was 17 years old. It took 13 years for him to finally surrender to God’s calling. He chose the name “Joseph” to be his legal American name, because in many ways his life is similar to the life of Joseph the dreamer in Genesis.
Pastor Joe and his wife Jenny have been married for 25 years and have 3 children: Eugena, Justin and Paul. Their number one priority is spending time with the Lord every day, staying in tune with the Lord 24/7.
